Privacy Policy
Retrograde: Tracking Mercury is published by Dialect. This policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used.
No account, no ads, no tracking across apps
Retrograde does not require an account and does not use an app backend. Mercury data, calculations, alerts, widgets, and share cards are produced on your device. Retrograde does not ask to track you across other companies' apps and websites, does not read your device's advertising identifier, and does not sell personal data.
Usage analytics
Retrograde sends anonymous usage signals to TelemetryDeck, an analytics service built for privacy. Signals describe how the app is used: screens opened, features used (such as a calendar export or a completed share), whether alerts were allowed, whether the Full Instrument screen was shown, and purchase outcomes. Each signal includes basic context such as app version, iOS version, device model, and language or region settings. TelemetryDeck receives a one-way hashed identifier rather than a name, email address, or advertising identifier.
Install measurement
Retrograde uses AppsFlyer to measure which advertising campaigns led to installs and purchases. AppsFlyer receives the app's vendor identifier (an identifier Apple scopes to Dialect's apps on your device), the device's IP address, device and app details, app open events, and Full Instrument purchase details (product, price, and currency). IP addresses are masked before storage. Campaign attribution relies on Apple's privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork and AdAttributionKit reports and on Apple Ads attribution, and data shared with advertising partners is aggregated. AppsFlyer does not receive your advertising identifier, and Retrograde does not combine this data with data from other companies for targeted advertising.
Purchases
Purchases and restores are handled by the App Store. Retrograde receives the purchase result from Apple and reports the product, price, and currency to TelemetryDeck and AppsFlyer as described above. Retrograde never receives your payment details.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, Retrograde schedules local notifications on your device for Mercury retrograde reminders. Notification preferences remain on your device. Retrograde records whether you allowed notifications and when you open one.
Calendar access
If you choose to add a retrograde window to Calendar, Retrograde requests write-only calendar access. This permission allows the app to create a new calendar event. Retrograde does not read, modify, upload, or analyze your existing calendar events.
Data source
Retrograde includes an offline Mercury retrograde event table generated from NASA/JPL Horizons astronomical data. The app does not need network access to calculate or display retrograde status.
Children's privacy
Retrograde is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
Service providers
TelemetryDeck (privacy policy) and AppsFlyer (privacy policy) process data for Dialect as described above.
